“Dreamlike Tengchong” — A Grand Cultural Spectacle of the Borderlands
Dreamlike Tengchong is a large-scale original cultural tourism performance created by acclaimed director Tao Chun, best known as the chief director of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony Gala. With an investment of over 30 million RMB, the show premiered on January 1, 2010, and has since become a cultural landmark. Divided into five thematic chapters—Volcano & Hot Springs, Ancient Caravan Trails, Blood & Legacy, Heshun Homeland, and Light of the Silk Road—the production vividly portrays the unique geography, history, and spirit of Tengchong.
The entire performance makes extensive use of high-tech sound, lighting, and visual effects. In particular, laser systems from Ian Laser, including the Classic Series and Sword Series, are employed to create breathtaking, immersive visuals. These cutting-edge laser shows bring to life the fiery passion of volcanoes, the tenderness of hot springs, the legendary caravans, the frenzy of jade trading, the heroic defense of homeland, the beauty of folk traditions, and the revival of the Silk Road—culminating in a poetic reconciliation between humans and nature.
Through captivating storytelling and stunning stagecraft, Dreamlike Tengchong fully showcases the natural, ecological, and wartime heritage of Tengchong, delivering a powerful audiovisual impact that leaves the audience deeply moved and inspired.
